Elmo and Big Bird to Help Promote Science and Math!

November 30, 2009

According to a November 23rd article in the New York Times (“White House Begins Campaign to Promote Science and Math Education”), the White House will be working with a variety of professionals and television shows (including Sesame Street) to improve math and science education for U.S. students:

President Obama announced on Monday a campaign to enlist companies and nonprofit groups to spend money, time and volunteer effort to encourage students, especially in middle and high school, to pursue science, technology, engineering and math.

The President went on to say, “We’re going to show young people how cool science can be.” The program is called Educate to Innovate, and it will include television programming geared at math and science as well as classroom collaborations with teachers, students, scientists, and engineers. There will even be a National Lab Day in May 2010.
